What Is a Cloud Bed Frame?

A cloud bed frame is a fabric bed that is padded on every side, not just the headboard. The headboard, side rails and foot end are all thick and rounded, so the bed looks plump and feels soft wherever you touch it. You may also see it called a cloud bed soft frame or a bubble bed frame.

How to spot a true cloud bed:

  • Soft all the way round: no wooden or metal edges on show, so there's nothing hard to knock your legs on.
  • Rounded corners: curves instead of straight lines give the bed its relaxed, puffy shape.
  • A thick, cushioned headboard: comfortable to rest against when you sit up in bed.
  • A sturdy frame inside: under the padding there's a solid frame and base, so the bed feels firm and steady to sleep on.

It's a bed you choose for the look as much as the comfort. If you want the bed itself to be the centre of the room, a cloud bed does that without needing bold colours or patterns.

Boucle Bed Frames: Why the Fabric Suits a Cloud Bed

Boucle is made from looped yarn, which gives it a soft, bumpy texture you can feel as well as see. On a cloud bed, that texture adds depth to the padding and makes the whole bed look softer. That's why most of our cloud beds are bouclé bed frames.

Why boucle works so well:

  • Pale colours don't look flat: cream, ivory and light grey boucle have a gentle texture that keeps them interesting.
  • Small marks are harder to see: the looped surface hides light marks better than smooth, flat fabrics.
  • It feels cosy: boucle is warm and soft against your back when you lean on the headboard.
  • It goes with everything: plain, textured boucle suits most bedding, from crisp white to bold colours.

Teddy boucle beds take the softness further. Teddy fabric has a deeper, fluffier pile, so a teddy bed frame feels almost like a soft toy. It's a lovely choice if cosiness is your top priority.

Plush velvet is the other option on many of our designs. It's smooth with a soft sheen, for a richer, more classic look on the same padded shape.

If you can't decide, order fabric swatches first and see the colours in your own room's light.

Cloud Bed Styles: Curved, Scalloped, Wingback and Channelled

All our cloud beds share the same soft padding. What changes is the headboard, and that's what sets the mood of your bedroom.

  • Curved: one smooth, rounded headboard with no corners. Simple and modern, and easy to style.
  • Scalloped: a headboard made of puffy rounded sections, like a row of clouds. Fun and eye-catching, and popular for younger bedrooms too.
  • Wingback: side panels curve forward around your pillows. It feels more enclosed and gives the bed a grand, hotel-like look.
  • Channelled: padded lines run across or down the headboard. Neat and tailored, while still soft to the touch.
  • Wave: a softly rippled top edge, for something a little different. See the Myra.

Which style suits your room?

  • Small room or low ceiling: curved or channelled, with a lower headboard.
  • Large room or high ceiling: wingback or scalloped, with a taller headboard to fill the wall.
  • Child's or teen's room: scalloped, for a playful look.

What Sizes Are Available in Cloud Beds?

Our cloud beds come in every standard UK size, from 3ft to 6ft. Here's who each size suits best:

  • 3ft single (90 × 190 cm): children, teens and guest rooms.
  • 4ft small double (120 × 190 cm): one adult who wants more room in a smaller bedroom.
  • 4ft 6in double (135 × 190 cm): our cloud double bed is a versatile choice for guest rooms and average-sized main bedrooms.
  • 5ft king size (150 × 200 cm): a bouclé bed frame in king size gives couples extra space to stretch out.
  • 6ft super king (180 × 200 cm): the most room of all, for couples who like their own space.

Good to know: because the padding sits around the outside of the mattress, a cloud bed is wider and longer than the size on the label. Each product page lists the full frame size, so check this against your room before you order.

Boucle Storage Beds: Cloud Beds With Ottoman Storage

Yes, you can have the cloud look and plenty of storage too. Nine of our cloud bed designs come as a bouclé storage bed with a gas-lift ottoman base, including the Anna. From the outside the bed looks just as soft. Lift the base and there's a large space underneath.

Storage options across the range:

  • Gas-lift ottoman: the mattress platform lifts easily and stays open while you reach in.
  • Front, left or right lift: pick the side that opens best in your room.
  • Divan ottoman base: pull the fabric handle at the side or foot of the bed and the mattress platform lifts on gas pistons, opening up a large storage space underneath.

An ottoman cloud bed is ideal for:

  • Small bedrooms and flats with little wardrobe space.
  • Storing bulky things such as spare duvets, pillows and winter clothes.
  • Keeping a child's room tidy, with toys out of sight.

Tip: before you choose the lift direction, check which side of the bed has the most free floor space.

Cloud Beds for Kids and Teens

Soft, rounded edges make a cloud bed a natural fit for children's rooms, and a bed that feels this cosy can make bedtime easier too. Our Lunar and Fuzzle kids' bouclé beds are designed with younger rooms in mind. The fluffy finish gives them the feel of a teddy bear bed frame, while the solid frame underneath is built for everyday use.

When you're choosing for a child or teen:

  • Think ahead: a single is fine for younger children, but a small double or double will last a teenager for years.
  • Pick a forgiving colour: grey, beige and stone show less than bright white.
  • Add storage: an ottoman base keeps spare bedding, toys and school things tidy.
  • Plan simple care: a quick vacuum with a soft brush attachment keeps bouclé fresh.

Will a Cloud Bed Fit Your Room?

In most cases, yes. The key is to plan for the padding, which makes a cloud bed bigger than a slim frame of the same size. A few quick checks before you order:

  • Measure the frame, not the mattress: use the full width and length from the product page.
  • Leave walking space: aim for about 60 cm around the sides and foot of the bed, so you can move around and make the bed easily.
  • Check the headboard height: in a small room or under a sloping ceiling, a lower headboard keeps the space feeling open.
  • Go light in small rooms: cream, ivory and light grey make a padded bed feel less bulky.
  • Measure the way in: check stairs, doorways and landings, as the headboard is usually the biggest piece.

FAQs

No. Any standard UK mattress in the same size will fit. We suggest one around 20–25 cm deep, so it sits nicely within the padded sides and the bed keeps its soft, low look.

Yes. Bouclé is a hard-wearing fabric that copes well with everyday use. Vacuum it gently with a soft brush to lift dust, and blot any spills straight away with a damp cloth. Don't rub or use harsh cleaners, as this can pull the loops.

Our cloud beds are made to order in standard UK sizes from 3ft to 6ft, which fit standard mattresses and bedding. If you need something different, contact our team before ordering and we'll let you know what's possible.

Yes. Your bed arrives in a few main parts with step-by-step instructions and all the fittings. It's a two-person job, mainly because the padded headboard is large and easier to line up with help.

A little, and that's normal. Loose fibres can form small bobbles where the fabric rubs most, and the loops may soften where you lean. Gently brush the fabric now and then, and remove any bobbles with a fabric shaver to keep it looking fresh.
